WORKING THERAPEUTICALLY WITH NLP
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is an innovative approach to understanding and re-shaping human experience, communication and behaviours. The tools of NLP provide a flexible, individually focused method for facilitating, and accelerating, growth and changes in perception, mood and behaviour.
NLP utilises the information and resources available to all five senses in relation to the cognitive and emotional processing pathways within the brain and is able, in a unique way, to rebalance disruptions between mind, body, emotions and actions resulting from traumatic experience/s.
The skilful, and attentive use of NLP creates positive changes in those we work with by utilising clients' existing resources, or helping them to create resources, in order to process material that has remained unprocessed and unmanageable. Unprocessed traumatic experiences (including neglect) manifests as psychological and behavioural disturbance, often including violence towards others and or/property, self-harm and alcohol/substance abuse as sufferers seek to 'medicate' or act out otherwise unmanageable emotions and thoughts.
In addition to its therapeutic applications, NLP is a highly effective tool for personal development, motivation and communication skills, applicable to all areas of life such as relationships, study, work, sporting activity and general wellbeing.
Mindworks training will help practitioners and others involved in working with young people to develop a high level of skill in NLP, in terms of helping others, communicating within teams and promoting their own personal and professional development. Course participants will learn how to:
Create meaningful rapport with others.
Utilise the structure of language to create productive thinking patterns.
Clarify decision- making processes.
Identify underlying strategies.
Identifying and enhancing resourceful states.
Create effective triggers to produce resourceful states.
Develop new strategies.
Achieve productive outcomes.
Understand the power of beliefs and how they are shaped and maintained.
A typical 5 day course will include all of the above elements and costs £750.00 per delegate. This includes recognised certification and a manual.
Mindworks NLP based trainings have now been used by individuals and groups within both Youth Offenders Trust Teams and the Child and Adolescent Support Group, STORM, currently running in Swansea. MINDWORKS NLP BASED TRAININGS ARE EFFECTIVE IN:
FAMILY THERAPY:
One of the earliest models used in NLP was that of the work of Virginia Satir the famous American Family Therapist. Working with the family group the practitioner learns how understand the elements in a transaction between two people that make change possible. Knowing what these are makes it possible to use them consciously and develop methods for inducing change.
VICTIM SUPPORT:
NLP has some very effective tools for helping the victims of crime deal with their experiences, past and present, of stressful and/or traumatic life events. This enables the practitioners to facilitate the processing of these events and the rebuilding of their lives.
Goal orientated and motivational strategies allow the individual to move away from the 'victim' mindset and manage their lives more effectively: gaining from the experience as opposed to living with feelings of guilt and shame.
CRISIS INTERVENTION:
Stress reduction and the development of behavioural flexibility are essential in dealing with crises are key factors in creating productive outcomes that permit ongoing communication.. Mindworks Practitioners are equipped to work quickly and effectively in situations where communication may be breaking down.
TRAUMA MANAGEMENT:
People who have experienced severe physical, psychological or sexual trauma and/or severe neglect sufficient to trigger dissociation, remember such events by wholly or partially re-living them. This means that Just talking about the problem may re-traumatise the client. NLP enables the practitioner to treat the effects of trauma without re-traumatising. The reduction of acute PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorders) symptoms results in trauma memories being experienced more as normal memories and facilitates the effective use of other treatment interventions.
ASSESSMENT:
Accurate individualised assessment is key to developing a model of treatment for the client and/or the group- Using the language patterns of NLP allows us to access the core issues and responses that prevent the client from moving on in their lives. By developing sensory acuity the NLP trained assessor can come up with the best possible solution using a technique known as the LAB profile. (Language and Behaviour Model). It is a way of thinking about people and groups that allows the practitioner to notice and respond to how the client
gets motivated, processes information, and makes decisions.
EDUCATION:
Teachers will find that they will be better able to handle difficult pupils and develop a greater understanding of different learning styles. They will develop skills that allow them to build a student's self-esteem -and therefore their desire to learn- through appreciating the value and effectiveness of positive reinforcement. On a personal level they will enjoy greater management of their own frame of mind and emotional state, resulting in reduced stress levels and greater job satisfaction. By having their own excitement about learning rekindled, through a mindworks training, many teachers find it easy to stimulate and instill a positive attitude towards learning in their pupils. Finally they are more able to be creative, imaginative and stimulating in their presentations
